My visit to Downing Street...
Welcome to my blog and Happy New Year. Wishing you all a prosperous and healthy 2015.
I started my Virtual Assistant business in 2012, to help me with the challenges of going out to work, childcare difficulties, the expense and just getting that work/life balance just right. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that going into my 3rd year I would have achieved so much. I absolutely love what I do and have never looked back.
My business is called Agile Administration, ‘agile’ being key. I wanted to offer something to start-up businesses, giving them the flexibility to have a helping hand at their convenience. My hours are flexible, adhoc or contract. I am the sort of person that doesn’t see a problem and if there is one, will always work hard on finding a solution.
My clients are very diverse because I am able to give this flexibility, ranging from authors, musicians, and business owners. I have just picked up two new clients, transcription services for an external review team and TV sponsorship for an up and coming darts player.
I decided in August 2014 to apply for Small Business Saturday, a grass roots initiative whose goal is to champion small businesses. The Small Business Saturday team with a huge following were going to use their social media channels to feature 100 small businesses, one a day for the 100 days leading up to December 6th - the actual day. What have I got to lose I thought!
So, 4 weeks later, I received an email saying that my application; simply website address, a picture of me, some information about my business, what my goals were and what I was planning on doing for Small Business Saturday had been accepted and my business had been selected. Oh wow, I jumped around the room and did a chair dance for a very long time I can tell you. How exciting I thought, always doing PR or marketing for other clients, now this was an opportunity for me to do something for my own business.
It was fantastic to have been selected in the first instance, but it was hugely satisfying personally to have been invited to Downing Street along with the other 99 businesses, to be part of the first Christmas Fair in Downing Street, to hear the children sing some carols, to network and meet other businesses. A day I won’t forget in a hurry.
